Services

Overview

For the past two decades, the English Multimedia Writing Skills Center served the general student population at Morehouse by providing services that foster the most important professional skill for productivity in our global society: the ability to communicate clearly and effectively through writing. Founded in 1990 as the Writing Skills Lab, the Center’s name was expanded to the English Multimedia Writing Skills Lab in 2007 to reflect the innovation of academic computing and digital technology for teaching and learning composition. It is now known as the English Multimedia Writing Skills Center.

The Writing Center helps Morehouse students, regardless of classification or major, improve their writing skills through in-house workshops and individual tutoring. Schedule an appointment to meet with our dedicated writing consultants trained in composition, grammar, and digital media.

Writing consultants work one-on-one with students to help them improve their writing. They approach writing holistically, explaining various writing concepts and strategies, encouraging students’ understanding of grammar and mechanics, and focusing on students’ writing content and rhetorical approach. Tutors neither edit nor write papers for the students; rather, they approach tutoring dialogically, treating it as an opportunity for students to expand their ideas and their writing skills. All tutors are hired based on their strong English competency and ability to communicate effectively with their peers.

For assistance with writing assignments, register an account, and schedule a 30-minute appointment with a writing consultant.
