About the Program
The Innovative Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (iSTEM) Strategies Project at Morehouse College was designed as a three-year program to provide underrepresented students with STEM-focused, challenging learning experiences intended to increase their exposure to innovation and creativity. iSTEM students participate in Saturday Academy twice a month from September to April. The program began during the fall of 2015 and will conclude after the summer 2018 session.
iSTEM Program Objectives
- To increase student awareness and knowledge of educational opportunities and careers in STEM disciplines
- To increase student knowledge, skills, and practices related to STEM curricula and/or STEM workforce
- To broaden participation of underrepresented populations in STEM programs and careers.
The Innovative Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (iSTEM) Strategies Project at Morehouse College offers a rigorous, stimulating curriculum of project- and inquiry-based learning activities that explore principles related to STEM education and careers. The curriculum also includes hour-long classes of advanced mathematics, science, English and innovation.
iSTEM participants are 9th, 10th & 11th grade students from Atlanta and surrounding communities who are interested in STEM education careers. Participants were selected based on a comprehensive application process. Most have participated over the course of multiple academic years.
