• Male students completing their Baccalaureate Secondary Studies
• Male students completing their "A" Levels
• Completed American SAT exam with a minimum score of 1670 OR

• TOFEL exam with a minimum score of 78

Morehouse College, under a grant of $1 million from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, is providing a full scholarship program to cover the cost of a four year education program for five students from the African Great Lakers Region, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.

The Rugari Scholarship Program seeks to train and develop future leaders for the African Great Lakes region in the hope that the students selected for their program will return home after the completion of their studies to support the incredible development potential that exist in these countries.

Morehouse College under this scholarship program is seeking highly qualified male students, who have completed their secondary studies at the baccalaureate and “A levels”.  The applicants should be in the top 10% of their class and should have taken the American SAT exam with a minimum score of 1670 or ACT exams with a minimum score of 25. In addition, the applicant’s should have taken the TOFEL examination. The college requires a minimum score of 78 on this examination to be considered for this scholarship program.  The college is looking for applicants who have shown leadership skills and have been actively involved in school and community service programs.

Morehouse College will establish a selection committee to review candidates that are received through the application process or proposed for this scholarship program based upon the recommendations has received from educational institutions in the region, staff visits to the region, and the recommendations of non-governmental organizations working in the region. The applicants selected as finalists will be interviewed by members of the selection committee and the finalists will be chosen from the students interviewed. The students selected for the program will undergo an in-depth orientation program in the United States and will be assigned an academic advisor to guide them through their educational course work at Morehouse College.  The students will also undergo a general education studies program for the first two years, which will be followed by a more specialized program in the area of political science, economics, sociology and history. In addition, they will be encouraged to pursue a minor in leadership studies by taking courses in the Foundations of Leadership and Theory of Leadership, Ethical Leadership and the African American Moral Tradition, Ethical Leadership- the Crisis of North-South Relations and Leadership and Civic Engagement.
