LCMC Mission & History
The mission of the Leadership Center at Morehouse College is to develop ethical leaders serving public, private, and social sectors in local, national, and international communities. Established in 1995 with a $1-million grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation, the Center seeks to train a new generation of leaders to address pressing contemporary ethical and social concerns, especially those affecting African American life and culture.
The Ethical Leadership Model ™developed by Dr. Walter Earl Fluker, Coca-Cola Professor of Leadership Studies and the Center's executive director since 1998, embodies cultivation of character (integrity, empathy and hope), civility (recognition, respect and reverence) and community (compassion, justice and courage)—primary values in the Morehouse leadership tradition.
The program also reflects Morehouse College President Robert M. Franklin’s vision “to develop Renaissance Men – leader with a social conscience – who will champion the causes of equality, justice and peace in their communities and around the globe.” This vision reflects a microcosm of the knowledge, skills and character needed for future civil society.
