Program Overview
Under the Project Identity program, Morehouse offers two learning options.
Saturday Institute
The Saturday Institute is a bi-weekly program for African American middle and early high school males. The program provides math, science, literature and writing programs, working closely with Morehouse faculty, student and other centers and institutes. Programs such as Robotics, behavioral research, the Spoken Word institute and SAT preparatory classes equip students with the skills needed to succeed throughout high school and college.
Parents of the participants also receive information on financial aid and financial planning through workshops hosted by the college’s financial aid office and our financial services partners. Participants also receive aid with the college application process and are tracked until graduation.
There is no cost associated with this program. Click here to download the Saturday Institute brochure (PDF).
Summer Institute
The Summer Institute is a four week, on-campus program
for rising high school sophomore and junior African American males.
Open to in-state and out-of-state students, the institute replicates
the college experience with an intense curriculum and enrichment activities
to assist in developing their academic, social and leadership skills.
The curriculum consists of algebra II and pre-calculus,
argumentation and debate, creative writing, leadership
development and SAT preparation. Participants are taught by college faculty
and paired with student tutors and mentors. Enrichment activities
include round table discussions on various subjects
relating to college life and everyday life experiences.
Applicants should have an A or B average with some
accelerated level coursework; have taken the PSAT or SAT; and present
two letters of recommendation.
There is a $400 program fee. Click here to download the Summer Institute brochure (PDF).
