2013 SUMMER INSTITUTE – MIDDLE SCHOOL FAQ’s

What is the cost associated with Project Identity’s 2013 Summer Institute – Middle School?
The cost for the 2013 Summer Institute – Middle School  is $ 1,100.00 plus a $25.00 registration fee.

What are the dates for the 2013 Summer Institute – Middle School?
The 3-week day program starts June 3-21, 2013

What are the eligibility requirements?
A qualifying applicant MUST be a rising 6th through rising 8th grade middle school student for the 2013-2014 school year.

What is the selection process? Is it a first come first serve admission?
The 2013 Summer Institute – Middle School is a first come first served enrollment process. Registration forms will be accepted until program is full.

Supervision
Program participants are supervised throughout the program by a team of carefully selected and trained Project Identity Summer Mentors who are current Morehouse College Students. Mentors chaperone students in class, and to and from classes, meals and field trips. Project Identity staff members are also on-site each day for the entire program.

Meals
Participants eat together each day for lunch in Chivers dining hall, under the supervision of PI Summer Mentors. Students are allowed to bring afternoon snacks in appropriate containers or can purchase snacks at campus bookstore or free standing vending machines.

Student Drop off
Student drop of each morning is 8:45 – 9:00am. Staff and college are not responsible for students who arrive at campus early. The drop off and pick up location will be disclosed when participants are accepted.

Student Pick up
Parents should plan to pick students up at 4:30pm. The drop off and pick up location will be disclosed when participants are accepted. Students on campus after 4:30pm will be assessed an Extended Day.

What will my son need to bring to the program?
Acceptant applicants will receive an official welcome packet with all pertinent information concerning their stay at Morehouse College.

In case of an illness, how do you care for students?
Applicants will be seen by the on campus staff at the student health services at the college. Applicants who require more extensive assistance are taken to a nearby hospital. With any illness or injury, we communicate with parents regarding the situation.

Is there a cancellation or refund policy?
If an accepted paid participant withdraws before May 29, 2013 a full refund will be issued. There will be no refunds issued after this date or once the program begins, if a student is expelled from the program or leaves prior to the completion of the program on his own accord.


2013 SUMMER INSTITUTE – HIGH SCHOOL FAQs

What is the cost associated with Project Identity’s 2013 Summer Institute – High School?
The cost for the 2013 Summer Institute – High School is $2,200.00 plus $25 registration fee due at submission of application (non-refundable)

What are the eligibility requirements?
A qualifying applicant MUST be a rising 9th through rising 12th grade male student, with a GPA of a 3.0 or better and strong scores on the ACT, PSAT or SAT.

What if my son has not taken the PSAT or SAT exam yet?
Applicants who have yet to take the PSAT, SAT or ACT are still encouraged to apply. If applicant is scheduled to take tests at a later date, include the intended test date on their application.

When are the applications due?
Applications and payment must be received or postmarked by June 29, 2013.

What is the selection process? Is it a first come first serve admission?
A committee comprised of staff at Morehouse College, Project Identity administrators and partners will review all applications and select participants for the 2013 Summer Institute – High School. Applications are review based on eligibility, test scores, and GPA as well as essay and letters of recommendation.

What are the dates for the Summer Institute – High School?
The 3-week residential program starts July 8-26, 2013

When will I know if my child has been accepted into the Summer Institute – High School? Electronic acceptance and non acceptance notifications will be emailed to applicants.

Is financial aid or scholarships available?
Not at this time, however students who are in need are encouraged to send out letters soliciting sponsorship donations. These letters can be sent within your community to local organizations, such as local Boys clubs, church, supermarket, friends, family and etc.

What is included in the program fee and when is it due?
The $2,200.00 program fee includes tuition, room and board, field trip fees, and materials for the 3-week program. Only students accepted into the Summer Institute – High School are required to submit the program fee. The due date for the program fee is June 29, 2013.

Is transportation provided to the program?
Families must provide all transportation to and from to the campus of Morehouse College, which may include air and/or ground arrangements. Shuttle information can be should be addressed with Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson airport.

My child lives in the area and would like to participate in another activity while in the residential program. Is that possible?
Applicants should avoid scheduling any other regular activity while attending the Summer Institute Program. Because of the on-campus schedule and requirements for supervision for applicants, students are not permitted to leave campus.
