President Wilson Responds to Morehouse Shooting Incident
Dear Morehouse Community:
I regret to inform you that on Thursday, June 13, there was a shooting near the Morehouse campus in which one of our students was killed and another man wounded.
The Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit is conducting a thorough investigation in order to bring the perpetrators to justice as swiftly as possible. We are fully cooperating with them to maintain a level of confidentiality that preserves the integrity of the investigation. As soon as we can share more information with you we will.
Under any circumstance, the loss of a young life is difficult to accept. But tragedies such as this demand that more be done to ensure the safety of our students.
To this end, I am committed to continuing our efforts with the Atlanta Police to find new ways to address the problem of crime in the area. I am also committed to making sure that we, at Morehouse, do our part to create an environment defined by a high level of personal responsibility and zero tolerance for violence.
Under my leadership and with your help, we will ensure that Morehouse’s values are not just spoken, but embraced and demonstrated in every aspect of College life. As we continue to work toward this goal, I will keep you updated on our progress.
Thank you for your continued support.
John Silvanus Wilson Jr. '79
