Undefeated Maroon Tigers Rise to Top 10 in National Basketball RankingsDate Released: January 26, 2018
A dream season continues at Morehouse College as the Maroon Tigers basketball team continues to be undefeated and rising in the nationwide polls.
The Maroon Tigers, led by Head Coach Grady Brewer ’80, are now 17-0, 12-0 and tied for first place in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s East Division. The Maroon Tigers are now ranked 10th nationally in this week’s National Association of Basketball Coaches poll, up from 14th last week. Morehouse is also ranked 11th in the D2SIDA poll this week.
Star point guard Tyrius Walker was also named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week after shooting a combined 50 percent from the field and 81.3 percent from the free throw line in two games last week.
This week, he had an SIAC-high 47 points during the Maroon Tigers win over Benedict. Forward James Walker was named the SIAC’s Newcomer of the Week after he posted a season-high 16 points against Claflin and 11 points in Morehouse’s win over Albany State.
The Maroon Tigers are back on the court Monday, Jan. 27 in Augusta, Ga. when they visit Paine College. Morehouse continues their road trip at Claflin on Jan. 31 at 8 p.m., at Benedict on Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m., and at Clark Atlanta at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 8.
The next Maroon Tigers home game is on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. in Franklin Forbes Arena.
