No. 9 Morehouse Defeats Clark Atlanta 72-67Date Released: February 23, 2018
The Morehouse Maroon Tigers are the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East Division Champions!
The Maroon Tigers wrapped up the regular season Thursday night by defeating Clark Atlanta University 72-67 Thursday before 6,000 people at Franklin Forbes Arena. Morehouse swept the regular season series between the two Atlanta University Center schools and won the East Division title outright with a 18-1 conference record. Morehouse had already secured a share of the title and the top seed in next week’s SIAC Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Morehouse (24-1), ranked ninth in the nation among all Division II men’s basketball teams and No. 1 in the NCAA South Region, was led by star senior Tyrius Walker who had 27 points.
After the game, the team and coaches, including Head Coach Grady Brewer ’80, cut down the nets to celebrate their big win.
The Maroon Tigers will next week play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala., where Morehouse will be the No. 1 seed from the East Division.
