Africa’s Daughter Talks About Islam, AIDS and Future of the Continent
Daughter of the first president of Ghana Highlights Africa Awareness Week
ATLANTA--April 11, 2007 -- International journalist and daughter of Osagyfo Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana, has chosen to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ghanaian Independence in Atlanta during Morehouse College’s Africa Awareness Week. Samia Nkrumah’s visit is the highlight of Week.
In 1957, Ghana won its independence under the rule of Nkrumah’s father. Since then the democratic nation has been recognized for having a peaceful international relations agenda and a booming tourism industry.
During her visit, Nkrumah will deliver the keynote address for Africa Awareness Week at Morehouse. Her topic is “Nkrumah’s Vision for Africa and the Diaspora: 50 Years Later,”
Nkrumah, who lives in Rome, Italy, is a reporter for Cairo, Egypt’s Al-Ahram Weekly. She also is an advocate who champions issues of immigration, women, and Islam, and is well versed in her father's contributions to African economic development and advancement.
