CAMPAIGN GOAL SURPASSED!
Morehouse College Raises $11 Million More Than Campaign Goal
ATLANTA, February 22, 2006— With four months left before the official close of The Campaign for a New Century, Dr. Walter E. Massey, president of Morehouse College, announced on Friday, February 17 that the goal for the campaign has been met and surpassed.
The announcement was made during a special celebration at the new Georgia Aquarium as part of the commemoration of the 139th founding of the College. All week, Morehouse faculty, students, staff, administrators and College supporters have been observing the school’s founding.
The Morehouse College Board of Trustees publicly launched its $105-million campaign on Valentine’s Day in 2003. The goal is the largest fundraising effort in the College’s history.
The money raised during the campaign will support all areas of campus life. More than half of the money will create permanent endowments. The income generated from these endowments will be allocated for campus needs and will forever contribute to the financial health of the College. The campaign was sectioned into several different categories including facilities, which is the largest component and includes the newly finished Leadership Center facility, and the proposed Morehouse College Center for the Arts, which houses the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center. Other categories include scholarships, faculty development, curriculum development and technology.
Massey said meeting the campaign goal will ensure the future of Morehouse, its programs and its mission.
“As we envision the future of Morehouse College, our challenge is to ensure that we can continue to make a difference, that we can exert a critical influence in helping to meet the needs of our increasingly complex, global society,” he said.
The Campaign for a New Century will officially come to a close on June 30, 2006.
