African President-in-Residence
Sir Ketumile Masire, Former President of the Republic of Botswana To Visit Morehouse College
ATLANTA-September 12— The Leadership Center at Morehouse College welcomes Sir Ketumile Masire, former president of the Republic of Botswana, as African President-in-Residence. Sir Masire will speak at Morehouse on Wednesday, September 21 at 6:00 p.m. His Excellency also will meet privately with former president Jimmy Carter during his time in Atlanta. The two have worked together on international human rights issues. Masire is the third African President-in-Residence at Morehouse, but the first to meet with a former president.

The residency is a continuation of the collaboration with the African Presidential Archives and Research Center (APARC) at Boston University which last year hosted His Excellency Karl Offman, former president of the Republic of Mauritius.
The mission of the Leadership Center at Morehouse College (LCMC) is to train a new generation of leaders to address pressing contemporary ethical and social concerns, especially those affecting African American life and culture.
The program, initially established in the Department of Business and Economics in 1993 with a $3 million grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, is distinctive in its capacity to provide leadership education, research and training. In 1995, a $1 million grant from the Coca-Cola Foundation established the Leadership Center at Morehouse College.
Dr. Walter Earl Fluker, has served as the Center's executive director since 1998.
A national model for academic leadership studies programs — the Leadership Center at Morehouse College offers students rich and diverse experiences — from lectures, skills training, and small-group discussions with world-class leaders, to mentoring, internship and travel opportunities.
