AUC Choir Concert to Benefit Scholarships

ATLANTA UNIVERSITY CENTER SCHOOLS
HOLD SCHOLARSHIP BENEFIT CONCERT ON APRIL 15

ATLANTA-April 1, 2005-- Heaven will open-up when the combined choirs of the Atlanta University Center schools take the stage on April 15th to celebrate the legacy of James Weldon Johnson and the Negro spiritual. The Sixth Annual “Call of the Trombones” concert, sponsored by Clark Atlanta University (CAU), will be held in the Martin Luther Jr. International Chapel on the campus of Morehouse at 8:00 p.m. The concert will raise money to support scholarships for students.

“This is the first time all of the schools have participated in a joint concert since the inauguration of former President Jimmy Carter, and it’s a performance not to be missed,” says Dr. Alma Vinyard, chair of the English department at Clark Atlanta University. “The finale of all of the choirs performing Johnson’s “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing will reach deep into your soul.”

Directing the choirs this year are Glenn Halsey, CAU; Melva Costen, The Interdenominational Theological Center; David Morrow, Morehouse College; and Dr. Kevin Johnson, Spelman College.

Proceeds from the concert will be divided into five $1,000 scholarships for students at each of the participating schools.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students with valid identification. They can be purchased at any AUC bookstore, the CAU Alumni House and the CAU English Department.
