As I stepped outside of Beijing Capital International Airport, I felt a charge like no other. I felt a welcoming spirit of excitement and anticipation as Beijing, China eagerly awaits the arrival of the 2008 Olympic Games.
While riding down the highway towards my hotel, I saw towering cranes, construction, high-rise apartments, and signs upon signs with the Olympic Games’ slogan, “One World. One Dream.” It wasn’t until I viewed that slogan that I realized I finally stepped outside of my “comfort box.”
I realized the beauty behind intercultural communication and synergy, along with its necessity for developing my global competence. This realization has since allowed me to possess an open mind towards Chinese culture and become a sponge.
