UPDATE: Morehouse Establishes Bus Accident Hotline for Parents and Students
By ADD SEYMOUR JR.
(Nov. 4, 2009) -- Morehouse College has established a customer service information line for all inquiries related to bus accident involving the College's “House of Funk” Marching Band. For questions regarding medical and property claims, contact (404) 215-2675.
On Oct. 31, one of three buses carrying the ban to a football game in Albany, Ga. flipped over Saturday morning on Interstate 75 in south Metro Atlanta.
There were no fatalities or life-threatening injuries in the accident, but students were taken to various hospitals in the area for treatment. Most, including two members who attend Spelman College, were treated and released. The two most seriously injured students were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta. One student was released later that day, while the other student remains in the hospital.
The College retained the services of Adventure Bus Charter and Tours Inc. to transport the members of the band to the game.
"The College has used the services of Adventure Bus Charter and Tours, Inc. for a number of years without incident," said Toni O'Neal Mosley, director of public relations. "We are conducting an internal investigation to determine how Superior Transportation Group, Inc. in was involved."
Band members have received counseling from Morehouse and Atlanta University Center chaplains. The College’s Counseling Resource Center has extended its hours to 7 p.m. daily.
