Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation Funds Scholarships for Morehouse-NYSP

The Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation has given some low-income youths an opportunity to participate in this year’s National Youth Sports Program summer camp at Morehouse.
The foundation, which is part of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, recently gave $3,200 to provide scholarships for up to 50 young people to take part in this year’s program.
“It is a pleasure to be among your supporters,” said John Bare, vice president for sports philanthropy and affiliated funds for the foundation.
Boys and girls ages 10-to-16 participate in the month-long program focusing on physical fitness -- with instruction in sports such as tennis, swimming, basketball and track. There is also an academic enrichment component in math, science and creative writing, along with drug and alcohol awareness.
“The monies received from the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation will provide camp scholarships for children who are unable to pay the registration fee for camp,” said project administrator Robert Wilson III. “Grants like this are important as they are a chief vehicle to sustain our ability to continue offering NYSP.
“NYSP congressional funding ended in 2005, and since then the program has been sustained by charging the approximately 140 participants a minimal fee and with grants,” he said. “Grants are needed in order for to provide service to more of the children in Atlanta and the surrounding cities.”
“We are excited about the grant as the Atlanta Falcon Youth Foundation and the Arthur Blank Foundation have supported our program over the past six years, which indicates they appreciate the work that we are doing with young people,” said Wilson.
