Budding Scientists Receive Arcs Scholarships
Nine Morehouse students were awarded scholarships from the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation for the 2005-06 academic year at a luncheon at the Ritz Carlton, Atlanta. Morehouse Alumnus Dr. David Satcher ’63, interim president of the Morehouse School of Medicine, was the keynote speaker.
Since 1992, the Atlanta chapter of the ARCS Foundation has provided $1,308,000 to 268 science and engineering scholars.
The scholars are: Ruben Alexander, a junior biology major from Decatur, Ga; Jamaal Benjamin, a senior biology major from Tallahassee; Jason Gilleylen, a senior biology major from Laurel, Miss.; Dennis Jones, a senior biology major from Collins, Miss.; Brandon Knockum, senior biology major from New Orleans; Ross McMillan, a junior biology major from Tallahassee; Nicholas Payne, a senior chemistry and chemical engineering major from Memphis, Tenn.; Courtney Pollard III, a senior biology major from Lithia Springs, Ga. and James Whitfield, a senior mathematics; and chemistry major from Laurel, Md.
