A student's transition to college is filled with new levels of intellectual, personal and social challenge, and the Office of the Academic Affairs supports this transition in many ways - both in and outside of the classroom.  We'll have a discussion about student academic success and how we address common academic challenges, what support resources are available, and which issues first-year students struggled with the most.

THE 1000 PIECE PUZZLE: PROMOTING HEALTHY GROWTH INTO ADULTHOOD
This conversationwith Morehouse Parents will focus on developing an understanding of the psychological changes that necessitate a focus on developing social competency and perseverence in college-age youth.  The talk will be participatory and utilize real life examples from audience members. Special attention will be given to the importance of the role of rites of passage and the components of the 'Morehouse Experience'.

REACHING AND PREPARING 21ST CENTURY STUDENTS THROUGH INTEGRATIVE LEARNING

Nurturing a students' abilities to integrate learning and helping them pursue their learning in more intentional, connected ways is one of the most important goals and challenges in higher education. An emphasis on integrative learning will prepare students to make more informed judgements in the conduct of their personal, professional and public life.  Dr. David Wall Rice, Associate Provost for Integrative Learning and Academic Accountability, will discuss the opportunities and challenges of teaching college students in the 21st century and what makes this generation so very, very unique.

Jay Austin shows students (and parents) how tying a tie - an act associated with men who embody professionalism and prestige - can inspire Morehouse men to commit to a life of achievement and success. Experience a bowtie tying demonstration; fathers & sons learning how to create distinguishing knots together with a bowtie, serving as a rites of passage into manhood.  MOMS ARE WELCOME TOO!

This session will discuss how the Career Services and Engagement department  is engaging with your student through key career programs, resources and services. Learn how parents and other family members can support students who are making decisions related to their majors, internship options and career opportunities. Career Services staff will be on hand to answer any and all questions you may have about future opportunities for your student.  (Students encouraged to attend with a registered parent).

Each of us has a unique way of praying, but praying together brings about new voice to the need. Join us as we link arms an intercede in prayer for our institution, the new President, professors, staff and our beloved sons to be awakened and transformed by the presence of God.
