Letter to Supporters - continued

The Howard Thurman Trust:

The Howard Thurman Trust has been transferred from San Francisco to Morehouse College. Lerone Bennett, Secretary to Morehouse Board of Trustees, is overseeing the transfer. Mr. Bennett is working closely with President Massey and a legal team to complete all formal procedures concerning the transfer. Presently there is no program of distribution for his works; however, we hope to have formal method of distribution in place in the near future.

We will provide more detailed information as soon as the Howard Thurman Trust has been reestablished here at Morehouse College. The trust will work closely with the College Leadership Center in the development of leaders for the 21st Century.

Dr. Fluker is available for lectures and/or workshops on the legacy of Howard Thurman. Dr. Fluker may be reached by calling (404) 614-8565 or wfluker@morehouse.edu. Recent public presentations include participation by Dr. Fluker in a Howard Thurman lecture series at Emory University in September 1998 and lecturer for the November 12th Crown Forum at Morehouse College. On January 15, 1999, Dr. Fluker spoke at The University of Akron, Ohio and on January 25, 1999 at Cornell University. He participated in a public lecture at Boston University on March 31, 1999, entitled "Waiting for the Sound of the Genuine", and a presentation at the Fetzer Institute in Kalamazoo, MI in April, 1999. On September 22, 1999, Dr. Fluker delivered the Annual Howard Thurman Lecture at the Candler School of Theology, Emory University.

Funding:

Since 1992 the project has received generous funding from The Lilly Endowment, Inc., The Louisville Institute for the Study of Protestantism and American Culture, The Pew Charitable Trusts, Henry R. Luce Foundation, and The National Historical Publications and Records Commission.

We are very excited and are enthusiastically working toward the completion of the work of the Papers Project and the successful transfer of the Howard Thurman Educational Trust. A quarterly newsletter is being developed that will include among other topics, updates and information about planned events and programs. In the very near future we will be in touch with you for ideas on how we can better serve our supporters and the community as a whole.

Sincerely,
Jo Ann Lahmon, Ph.D.
Project and Information Systems Manager
