MPAGE II 2019: Community Health, Education, and Sustainability

The Morehouse Pan-African Global Experience (MPAGE) is our signature education abroad program. It supports the College’s unique mission and commitment to Africa and the Diaspora. Projects have included:

(1) curriculum development and course enhancement
(2) education abroad and international civic engagement
(3) faculty development and research; and
(4) student development and research.

MPAGE II reproduces and builds upon the successes of each of the foregoing MPAGE initiatives with a vision to increase the number of Morehouse students who complete their education with practical proficiency in a foreign language and an international experience, and to increase the involvement of General Education faculty members in delivering international education.

Portuguese Presence in Metro Atlanta

The main objective of this project is to present local establishments that speak Portuguese within the Atlanta Metropolitan area.

The information gathered on this map was collected during the summer of 2018, using the zip codes with the largest concentration of Lusophone speakers according to the 2010 Census.

For each zip code, the main collection was achieved through the visual inspection of the local establishments in and around the major north-south and east-west roads. The secondary collection of data was obtained through interviews conducted at these establishments and their recommendations of other establishments that speak Portuguese. By no means is this an exhaustive project. If there are any errors, omissions or removal requests regarding the establishments on the map, please contact michael.dillon@morehouse.edu

Our intention is to be more exhaustive and to expand this project to other languages in the Atlanta Metropolitan area in the next few years.
