About John Silvanus Wilson Jr. '79

In January 2013, Dr. Wilson took office as the 11th president of Morehouse College, the nation’s only private, liberal arts institution dedicated to the education of African American males. Prior to that position, Dr. Wilson was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as the executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), a position he held since 2009.

      From I-75/85 South to I-20 West. Take Exit 55B, which is Lee Street/Ft. McPherson/Atlanta University Center. Turn right at the traffic light onto Westview Drive and proceed two blocks to the campus.
    • From the South/Hartsfield International Airport
      From I-75/85 North to I-20 West. Take Exit 55B, which is Lee Street/Ft. McPherson/Atlanta University Center. Turn right at the traffic light onto Westview Drive and proceed two blocks to the campus.
    • From the East
      From I-20 West. Take Exit 55B, which is Lee Street/Ft. McPherson/Atlanta University Center. Turn right at the traffic light onto Westview Drive and proceed two blocks to the campus.
    • From the West
      From I-20 East. Take Exit 55A, which is Joseph Lowery Blvd./West End. Turn left onto Joseph Lowery Blvd. and proceed through four traffic lights. At the fourth traffic light, turn right onto West End Avenue. Turn left at next light, which is Westview Drive, and proceed to campus.

    Georgia 511Georgia 511 is a free phone service, hosted by the Georgia Department of Transportation, that provides real-time traffic and travel information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The service provides information for all state routes and interstates and gives estimated travel times in metro Atlanta. Callers can speak to live operators to report incidents or request assistance, or connect to other services such as transit partners, airports, tourism information and 511 systems in neighboring states.

  • All visitors to the campus should park in the parking deck located at the Westview Drive entrance of campus. The parking rates are as follows:

    1 - 20 minutes ---------------free

    21 to 1 hour ----------------------$1.00

    1 - 2hours ------------------------ $2.00

    2 hours – 24 hours -------------- $3.00

    After hours & weekend rates -- $2.00

    Lost ticket ------------------------ $3.00

    Rates repeat after 24 hours

    Only parkers with campus issued parking permits may park on the inner campus. Individuals with special needs should ask the officer at the main entrance of campus for assistance or call the parking office at 404-614-3793 or Morehouse College Police at 404-215-2666.
