Grants
A grant is money which students do not have to work for or repay.
Federal Pell Grant. Pell Grant is the foundation of financial aid, to which aid from other federal and non-federal sources may be added. If eligible, grants range from $400 - $4731 per year.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). FSEOG is awarded to students with exceptional financial need. Priority is given to Pell Grant recipients. Grants range from $400 - $4000 per year.
Academic Competitiveness Grant may be awarded to first and second year undergraduates that have successfully completed a rigorous high school program as determined by the state or local education agency and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Second year students must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. The maximum award is $750 for the first year student and $1,300 for a second year student. Students must be eligible for a Pell Grant.
The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grants may be awarded to third and fourth year undergraduates majoring in physical, life or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, and engineering or in a foreign language determined to be critical to national security. The recipients must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in the course requirements of their majors. The maximum award is $4,000 per year. Students must be eligible for a Pell Grant.
Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG). An award given to legal residents of the State of Georgia who are enrolled on a full-time basis. The amount of the grant is $900 per year.
State of Georgia Hope Scholarship. An award given to Georgia residents who graduated from a Georgia high school with a grade point average of 3.0 or better. The amount of the scholarship is $3,000 per year.
Federal Work-Study (FWS). FWS allows students to earn money through part-time employment. Students generally work no more than 20 hours per week on campus or at an approved off-campus site. Students are paid once per month around the 15th of each month. Students awarded FWS as a part of their financial aid package should contact the Office of Financial Aid about job placement.
