CNN’s "American Morning" will air a five-part series titled “Words That Changed a Nation” on the private papers of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.  The series, which will be hosted by Soledad O'Brien, will air  from Monday, Jan. 8, to Friday, Jan. 12 on the nationally televised morning proogram (check your cable listing). 

Morehouse College and the Robert W. Woodruff Library worked with CNN to grant exclusive access to the rare documents, books, notes, sermons and other writings that represent the foundation of King’s life’s work as a preacher and human rights activist.  American Morning airs Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. (EST).


Thursday, January 11: "A King Celebration Concert" featuring the Morehouse/Spelman Glee Clubs and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
8:00 p.m. Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel

For 15 years the ASO and the joint glee clubs have been bringing the Atlanta community this celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  This year, a very special guest will participate in the program.  Author and Poet Maya Angelou will do a special recitation during the performance thanks to the generous support from the marque sponsor of the event, Target.   Thanks to Target, all tickets are buy one get one free. John Pruitt, Monica Kaufman Pearson and Jovita Moore explore the works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through the memories of some of those who knew him best.  Some of the people you will hear from in this exclusive hour-long special include King's sister Christine Farris, his daughter Dr. Bernice King, Ambassador Andrew Young, Dr. Joseph Lowery and Xernona Clayton.  You will also hear from some current Morehouse students as anchor Jovita Moore talks with them about the significance of King, his message and his legacy.

Monday, January 15: The Atlanta History Center presents:  "I Have A Dream: The Morehouse College  Martin Luther King Jr. Collection"
The Atlanta History Center,  130 West Paces Ferry Road, NW 

Join the Atlanta History Center, the City of Atlanta, and Morehouse College to honor the memory and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the premier exhibition,  I Have a Dream.  In honor of King's 78th birthday and MLK Jr. Holiday, I Have A Dream opens January 15, 2007 and will remain on display through May 13, 2007.  Admission to this exhibition is free opening day, the first full weekend of every month and every Monday.  Otherwise, this exhibition is included with general admission.  Parking is free.  For more information, please call 404.814.4000.

On Saturday, January 27th, guests from the Atlanta University Center will have a special open house at the Atlanta History Center to view the collection.  The open house will be free and open to all faculty, staff and students of the Atlanta University Center.
