We would like to announce the continuation of a special internship program that could provide your students with substantial financial assistance by means of federally-funded placements with the Department of Defense/Washington Headquarters Services.
Selected undergraduate or graduate students from your institution will intern during summer 2008 at various offices within the Department of Defense. Mathematics and/or Statistics majors are particularly needed for this internship opportunity. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and able to receive a favorable background investigation. Examples of work completed by past interns include analysis of major weapon systems, statistical analysis of budget submissions, updating and maintaining departmental websites, or assisting with military to military bilateral relations.
Undergraduate students who are accepted into the DoD program will receive funding covering the cost of Washington Center housing, plus earn a stipend of $1,423. If a student arranges for his or her own housing, the student will earn a stipend of $4,773. Graduate students accepted into the program will receive funding covering the cost of Washington Center housing, plus earn a stipend of $3,076. If a graduate student arranges for his or her own housing, the student will earn a stipend of $6,426.
Students from affiliated institutions must receive approval from their campus liaison, whether or not they are receiving academic credit. If you are unsure of your institution's affiliation status or liaison, please contact info@twc.edu. The DoD application deadline is November 30, 2007. To apply for the DoD internship program, students must submit our Department of Defense application, available on our website: http://www.twc.edu/students/financial_federal.shtml#DoD. Undergraduate students interested in earning credit and completing our full program-which includes the academic course, Leadership Forum, and portfolio-will automatically be considered for the DoD opportunity as well as other internship placements tailored to their interests. Graduate students are also welcome to apply for our full program and be considered for other internship opportunities. Our regular application can be found at: http://www.twc.edu/students/how_to_apply.shtml.
Please don't hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions about this initiative or any other Washington Center programs.
