Morehouse College Reschedules Memorial Concert and Tribute in Celebration of the Dedication of the National Monument of Martin Luther King Jr.

ATLANTA, October 5, 2011- Morehouse College is pleased to announce a new date and location for the Memorial Concert and Tribute in celebration of the dedication of the Martin Luther King Memorial on the National Mall. The Memorial Concert and Tribute, which was cancelled due to Hurricane Irene, will now take place on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 8 p.m. at the beautiful Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD. The Morehouse concert will be the first event of the dedication weekend, which is expected to culminate with the official dedication service on Sunday, October 16, at the King Memorial National Historic site.

Northwestern Mutual Foundation is the presenting sponsor of the Memorial Concert and Tribute. The concert will showcase Timeless Voices featuring Eddie Levert, Dennis Edwards and Johnny Gill. Accomplished stage, film and television actor Avery Brooks will serve as host for the evening. Music icon Stevie Wonder and Congressman John Conyers Jr., (D-Mich.) will receive the Morehouse Presidential Renaissance Medallion of Merit for their roles in spearheading the effort to recognize King’s birthday as a national holiday.

Media Logistics for The Music Center at Strathmore

• Credentials: All media must RSVP at edurham@morehouse.edu or 404-507-8648 by Monday, October 10th for entrance to the concert. There will be a media check-in table located outside the Concert Hall. Credentials are not transferable.

• Parking: Media parking is available in the parking lot located between the Music Center at Strathmore and The Mansion at Strathmore. There is no charge for parking, but you WILL need to present a dashboard credential that will be emailed to you upon your confirmation of attendance. The Music Center at Strathmore is located at: 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda, MD, 20852.

• Equipment: Must be self-contained and battery-operated. Photographers (both still and video) are not permitted to roam the hall. We will provide access that will allow an unobstructed view of the stage.

• Audio: Broadcast television and radio outlets should come prepared to plug into a mult box located in designated press area.

• Access: Videographers will be positioned in a specific area, separate from field producers and reporters/anchors. Print reporters will have a designated area; one reporter and one still photographer per organization.

• VIP Reception: There will be limited photo and interview opportunities possible during the VIP reception.
Media need to check in and receive credentials before gaining access to the reception area. All media will be accompanied by a Morehouse College ambassador and will have limited access for one-on-one interviews, while available.
