ATLANTA, March 24, 2010- Albert Einstein once said, “Religion without science is blind. Science without religion is lame.” As such, the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel celebrates its 24th annual Ministers and Laity Induction Crown Forum during Science and Spiritual Awareness Week. The highlight of the induction ceremony is the presentation of the Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Prize to Dr. Han S. Park, who has been celebrated for his peace-making efforts between North Korea and the United States. Park is university professor of International Affairs and founding director of the Center for the Study of Global Issues at the University of Georgia. A special oil portrait of him will be unveiled during the ceremony, which will be added to the Hall of Honor in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel.

What: Induction Crown Forum - Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Prize presentation
When: Thursday, April 1, 2010, 11 a.m.
Where: Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, Morehouse College

During his 40 years of service at the University of Georgia, Park has worked as an educator, peacemaker and humanitarian. He has been called the architect of the U.S.-Democratic People’s Republic of Korea relations. Over the years, Park has laid the groundwork for continuing relations between North Korea and the U.S. including securing an invitation from North Korea for former President Jimmy Carter to lead a peace mission in 1994 to Pyongyang; a subsequent invitation to former President Bill Clinton to visit during his second term as well as negotiations that opened the opportunity for two prominent U.S. news organizations to gain historic access to North Korea.

The Reverend, Dr. Raphael G. Warnock, senior pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, will deliver the keynote address during the Induction Crown Forum.

The Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Prize honors those who demonstrate extraordinary global leadership through nonviolence and reconciliation. It is named for Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Daisaku Ikeda. Past recipients of the award include former South African President Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin (posthumously).

“We are thrilled to honor Dr. Han Park with the prestigious award,” said Dr. Lawrence E. Carter, dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College. “Park has distinguished himself not only as an international peacemaker, but also as a humanitarian. He is the founding president of Uniting Families, Inc., which has reunited hundreds of families from China and the Koreas,” he said.

A scholarly conversation, based on the works and studies of one of the foremost authorities on Science and Spiritual Awareness will take place later in the afternoon. The discussion will focus on the work of Dr. Pranab who has been active in the field of science and spirituality for more than ten years, leading three multimillion-dollar programs to support scholarship and research worldwide.
