Morehouse Memorial Concert and Tribute to King to Be Rescheduled

(Sept. 1, 2011) -- After careful consideration of the safety implications of Hurricane Irene, Morehouse College postponed its Memorial Concert and Tribute to King that was scheduled for Sunday, August 28 at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

The Memorial Concert and Tribute, featuring Timeless Voices Eddie Levert, Dennis Edwards and Johnny Gill, will be rescheduled for a later date to be determined. All corporate and individual sponsorships and purchased tickets will be honored in exchange for tickets to the rescheduled event. The College will do everything possible to present the Memorial Concert and Tribute as originally planned to honor Stevie Wonder and Congressman John Conyers for their roles in leading the charge to make King's birthday a national holiday.
“If you are unable to attend the concert on the rescheduled date, we encourage you to consider donating your ticket purchase to the Morehouse College General Scholarship Fund in support of our students and in memory of our alumnus, Dr. King,” said Henry Goodgame ’84, director of Alumni Relations and Special Events.

Memorial Concert and Tribute patrons who purchased packages that included tickets to the AT&T Nation’s Classic Football game, should pick-up their tickets at the Grand Hyatt on Thursday, September 8 and Friday, September 9, from 12-6 p.m.

Patrons who would like a refund for the price of the Memorial Concert and Tribute ticket(s), or would like to support Morehouse students by donating the ticket value to the College's scholarship fund, please send an email to by Friday, September 2, 2011. Information required to process all requests include full name, email address used to make the purchase, and mailing address.  Patrons will receive an acknowledgement letter for their donation and/or refund. Donations will be tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
The College will issue an announcement of a new date for the Morehouse Memorial Concert and Tribute as soon as possible.  Questions should be directed to the Office of Alumni Relations and Special Events at (404) 215-2658.
