Maroon Tigers Football Team Nationally Ranked for First Time in School History

UPDATE: (Nov. 8, 2010) -- Morehouse is the nation's 24th best Division II football team, according to the latest American Football Coaches Association poll.

The Maroon Tigers ended their regular season on Nov. 6 with a 13-3 victory over Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Miles College. Morehouse finishes the regular season with an 8-2 record.

The Maroon Tigers await the release of the latest NCAA Division II Football Committee's second regional poll of the year. Last week, Morehouse was ranked sixth in Super Region II Top 10.

The NCAA Division II Football Committee is releasing two polls this season, the current poll and another next week, one week before the Division II playoff pairings are announced. The top six teams in the four Division II Super Region polls qualify for the 24-team national playoffs.

If the Maroon Tigers maintain their sixth place ranking in the NCAA Division II Football Committee poll, Morehouse will go to the Division II national playoffs for the first time in school history.

The Maroon Tigers have spent most of the season ranked among the nation's Top 25 teams by The American Football Coaches Association. Morehouse, ranked as high as 16th this season, is currently just outside of the top 25.


(Sept. 21, 2010) Ė The Morehouse football teamís 4-0 start, the College's best since 1935, has led to a first: the Maroon Tigers are ranked among the nationís Top 25 Division II football teams by the American Football Coaches Association for the first time in school history.

The Maroon Tigers are the 20th best team in the country for the week of Sept. 20 in the poll of the nationís Division II football coaches.

Also ranked are two other Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools, Albany State (16th) and Tuskegee (25th).

Morehouse plays Tuskegee on Oct. 16 and hosts Albany State in the annual Morehouse Homecoming game on Oct. 23.

The Maroon Tigers host Lincoln on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in B.T. Harvey Stadium.
