Morehouse tennis coach Terry Alexander has been honored for his coaching and work in the community.
The United States Tennis Association named Alexander the 2011 sectional award winner of the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Campus and Community Outreach Award.
“We want to commend you on your leadership role in promoting, organizing or participating in campus and community tennis programming that encourage tennis participation and that support the different USTA programs,” ITA and USTA officials said in a December letter.
Alexander has led the Morehouse tennis program to three consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and was named the SIAC’s Coach of the Year in 2011.
Four Maroon Tigers were chosen to play with some of the nation's best football players during the 3rd Annual HBCU All Star Bowl at Atlanta's Georgia Dome in December.
Defensive lineman Chigbo Anouby, wide receiver Derrick Hector, offensive lineman Jarvis Canty and defensive back Darrius Williams represented Morehouse in the game, which featured the nation's best FCS (formerly Division I-AA) and Division II players from historically black colleges and universities.
All four played for the East squad, which won the game 23-13.
The game also gave the senior football players an opportunity to show off their talents for professional coaches and scouts from the National Football League and the Canadian Football League.
Two other Maroon Tigers football stars were also honored in December. Running back David Carter, the SIAC's 2011 Player of the Year, and offensive lineman Marlon Jones were named to the 2011 Daktronics All-Super Region Two Football Squad.
