For the second consecutive year, the Flying Maroon Tigers cross-country team claimed the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title.
The Maroon Tigers won their 15th conference championship in the last 16 years on the strength of four top 10 runners during the meet held at the Clayton County International Park on Nov. 5.
Junior Michael Vinson finished second with sophomore Karlton Mitchell following in third. Senior Jeremy Tinsley was sixth and freshman Kashaun Nelselu finished tenth.
Acclaimed coach Willie Hill was named SIAC Men’s Cross Country Track Coach of the Year.
Three Maroon Tigers were also named to the SIAC All Academic Cross Country team: seniors Lemario Bland and Matthew Tuffour, who have grade point averages of 3.97 and 3.83; and sophomore Terrance White, who has a 3.79 GPA. The Flying Maroon Tigers’ 3.76 GPA was the SIAC’s highest team grade point average.
