MOREHOUSE COLLEGE "DREAMS" TO TEACH PROGRAM:
(Discovery Research Education for African American Men in *STEM)
"STEM" refers to *Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
THE DISCOVERY RESEARCH (DRK-12) PRE-SERVICE STEM TEACHER INITIATIVE
This is a National Science Foundation(NSF) funded program which recruits Black Male students in the eleventh grade and initiates their preparation as K-12 public school science or math teachers. Beginning in November 2011, 80 promising Black Male students at the 11th grade in the Atlanta Public Schools System will be recruited. To be selected, each 11th grader must commit to majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics and becoming certified as a high school teacher of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics in a high need public school. Selected 11th grade students continue in the program throughout their senior year in high school. Successful students will receive scholarship funding to participate in a four-year program, which will track them through a Morehouse College major in a STEM subject and both Georgia and national level certification as a high school Science or Mathematics teacher.
