The Leadership Center at Morehouse College

Scholars-In-Residence Program

The Leadership Center identifies and recruits scholars involved in significant research and writing on leadership issues pertinent to the mission of the Center. The Scholars-in-Residence program brings scholars and public intellecturals to the campus, providing them the opportunity for concentrated work on research projects that serve as a resource for instruction, development, publication and training.  During AY 2007-08, there were three scholars affiliated with the Center.

Preston King

Dr. Preston King co-convened and delivered the keynote at a conference on Friendship in Politics at the University of Granada and at a conference on Violence, Plurality and the Future of Democracy for the International Political Science Association (IPSA) conference on political philosophy in Atlanta.  He serves asvisiting professor for the Department of Politics and International Relations at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. He wrote two pieces on identity, another on friendship in politics and completed a book on liberty. He also conducted a course, Ethical Leadership and the Crisis in North/South Relations for students.

R. Drew Smith

Dr. R. Drew Smith served as faculty-in-residence and SAGES Fellow at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and as guest editor for special issue of Review of Faith and International Affairs , he wrote two papers, Black Denominational Responses to U.S.-Middle East Policy Since 9/11 and Black Churches and U.S. Policy in the Middle East and North Africa.  Hedelivered several keynote addresses, authored articles, lectured and conducted media interviews.

Patricia Mitchell

Dr. Patricia Mitchell, visiting scholar from the Department of Leadership Studies, Doctoral Program at the University of San Francisco, worked in revising and developing curriculum, along with coordinating an anthology of lectures from the Coca-Cola Leadership Lecture Series with publication planned for December 2008. She recently developed two new course offerings in the graduate department at University of San Francisco, to be taught September 2008 centered on the ethical leadership model.

Patricia Mitchell

Jochen Fried is the director of Education at the Salzburg Global Seminar. In this capacity he is responsible for the development and implementation of the Seminar’s Mellon Fellow  Community Initiative, International Study Programs for students and faculty, and other related Education programs. He is the former director of the Universities Project of the Salzburg Global Seminar.

Patricia Mitchell

Dr. Lovemore Mbigi holds an MBA (Strategic Management) from Northeastern University, an MBA in Public Policy and a BSW in Social Policy from The University of Zimbabwe. He is a syndicate columnist of the public policy journal in Namibia-Prime Focus.

Joycelyn Wilson

Joycelyn "dr. joyce" Wilson is a Visiting Scholar-in-Residence of Hip-Hop Studies at the Leadership Center at Morehouse College. She also teaches courses in hip-hop culture and African American studies in the Morehouse College Department of African American Studies. She has taught similar courses at Georgia State University (GSU), as well as graduate courses in the GSU Department of Educational Policy Studies.
