What distinguishes the Leadership Center at Morehouse College from other leadership centers and training programs?
The Leadership Center at Morehouse College is dedicated to advancing ethical leadership as an urgently needed model in leadership development. The Center seeks to develop a new generation of leaders committed to solutions to contemporary ethical and social concerns.
What is “ethical leadership”?
The Center’s Ethical Leadership Model™ expands traditional understanding of leadership. In addition to the traditional skills of critical thinking, team building and problem solving, ethical leadership strongly emphasizes personal, moral and spiritual development as well as the development of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, empathy, courage and other “soft skills.” Ethical leaders are physically and emotionally whole, spiritually disciplined, intellectually astute and morally anchored.
Why is ethical leadership important?
Increasingly, the daily lives of citizens and communities all over the world are being challenged by the growth of impersonal systems dominated by power and money. Traditional leadership is losing its authority and influence. In essence, we are being challenged to develop strategies that address contemporary issues in ways that promote integrity, justice and a sense of community.
Does the Leadership Center offer courses for credit toward graduation?
Yes. Among our offerings is the Leadership Studies minor—a rigorous, interdisciplinary academic course of study consisting of a 15-hour curriculum that provides students with in-depth exposure to the concepts, theories and history of leadership.
How is the Leadership Center funded?
Currently, the Leadership Center receives funding from the Bank of America, The Coca-Cola Foundation, J.P. Morgan Chase, the Oprah Winfrey Foundation and the Skirball at the United Negro College Fund.
