Community Base Outreach
CBO is developed to bring forward timely and influential "grass-roots" perspectives as essential components of comprehensive actions and analysis of key issues affecting African American and undeserved communities. The CBO programs have included:
Bonner Research Project
During 1997-1999, BI supervised eight Morehouse faculty and 100 students conducting community based research and community service. Faculty members infused community service and research into their course curriculum and students received course credit. These projects partnerships with the DeKalb county Hispanic community, East Lake Center senior citizens, South DeKalb Incubator Program, and others.
Empowerment Zone Community Workshops
From 1996 - 1997, BI, in partnership with the Empowerment Zone Community Board-- representing over 500 Atlanta inner city communities -- conducted five Empowerment Zone Initiative Workshops. These workshops were community based, that is they were initiated and planned with complete community involvement. Community organizations, businesses, and facilities were used. Each workshop addressed the various aspects of the National Empowerment Zone program and over 600 residents attended the combined workshops.
