Community Standards

Quiet Hours
Noise should be maintained at a reasonable level at all times within the residence halls. All students are expected to be considerate of others who are studying or sleeping.

During designed quiet hours, noise levels should not be loud enough to be heard outside students' rooms. Regular quiet hours are:

* Sunday - Thursday
8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Extended quiet hours are observed from the Wednesday prior to the Reading Period until 5:00 p.m. on the Friday of finals week. During this time, all residents must adhere to quiet hours 24 hours per day.

Pets
Pets and animals may not be kept in residence halls, however, arrangements will be made to accommodate dogs that assist students with disabilities, e.g., guide dogs or students who are blind, and companion dogs for students who are hearing or mobility impaired. Students who need an animal to assist them with a disability must receive written permission from the Dean of Students. Students who keep pets or animals inside or outside any residence hall without permission may be held responsible for the extermination or other costs associated with the pets or animals.

Damages
Residents are liable for any damage and/or loss to a residence hall or its furniture. Whenever possible, repair of replacement costs will assessed to the individual or individuals responsible. In common areas and/or when this is not possible, costs can be prorated among the residents of a building, floor or wing. Students are encouraged to report any information regarding specific acts of vandalism to the Office of Housing and Residential Life.

Custodial Services
Custodial services are provided to every residence hall to keep the common living areas clean, and keep buildings up to standards. Residents are responsible for cleaning their rooms and removing excessive trash from the common areas.

Storage
Storage is not available in the resident halls. Students who need to store items must make their own arrangements with a commercial storage company. [A list of storage companies that are close to the college and generally cater to Morehouse students is available from the Office of Housing and Residential Life, Office of Off-Campus Student Services or the Resident Director.

Smoking
Smoking the residence halls is not prohibited. This policy is strictly enforced. Violators may be required to move off campus immediately and may be denied on-campus privileges in the future. Also included in this policy are combustible items:

* Incense
* Candles
* Cigars
* Fireworks, all of which are strictly prohibited.
