January 11, 2009 – NASHVILLE, TN – Barry Batson, Dreyfus Clemons and Damian Prince had outstanding individual performances and the Morehouse 4x400-meter relay team grabbed first place, at the Tennessee State Invitational.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Batson, Clemons, Prince and Chevon Cunningham won in a time of 3:17.66, edging out second-place finishers, the Pro Time Training Team.
Prince sprinted to a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash, a third-place finish in the 400 meters and anchored the winning 4x400-meter event. The senior from Decatur, GA ran a 21:76 in heat 2 of the 200 meters and a 49:34 in heat 1 of the 400 meters.
Batson, a sociology major from Barbados, is an accomplished sprinter and jumper. The versatile Batson, leapt 14.29 meters to take second in the triple jump, soared 6.48 meters to take ninth in the long jump, and ran the first leg of the 4x400-meter relay.
Clemons, an accomplished middle- and long-distance specialist, took first place in the mile run and the 800-meter run. The senior biology major from College Park, GA completed the mile in 4:34.01 and the 800 in 1:56.66.
Teammate Jeremy Tinsley, a junior sociology major from Baton Rouge, LA, finished right behind Clemons in the 800 meters, clocking in at 1:58.55.
Cunningham, a senior business administration major from Atlanta, took fifth place in the 200-meter dash, in a time of 22.53.
