MAROON TIGERS "THREE-PEAT" AS SIAC CHAMPS

April 21, 2008 – ATLANTA – Congratulations to head coach Willie H. Hill and the Morehouse Flying Maroon Tigers Track and Field team who captured a third consecutive SIAC title, this weekend at the Spring Sports Championships, in Tuscaloosa, AL.

In leading Morehouse to its 14th overall SIAC championship, Coach Hill was named the Outstanding Coach of the Tournament.

Morehouse amassed 218 points, to win the conference crown over second-place finisher Albany State (186 pts.) and third-place finisher Benedict (164 pts.).

A number of Maroon Tigers turned in outstanding performances in the three-day tournament, scoring points in multiple events.

Damian Prince was high on the list of top performers. The senior speedster from Decatur, GA won the 400-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles. He also anchored the 4x400-meter relay team, which took second place.

Barry Batson was a triple threat, with scoring finishes in three events. The sophomore from Christ Church, Barbados won the long jump and the triple jump and tied for sixth place in the high jump.

Dreyfus Clemons had an equally solid tournament. The sophomore from College Park, GA captured second-place in the 800-meters, second-place in the 1,500-meters and fifth-place in the 5,000-meters.

Abraham Kiprotich came in second in the 5,000-meter run and finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Demonstrating his all-around athletic ability, freshman Matt Tuffuor finished second in the decathlon.

Turner Coggins won the shot putt event, finished second in the discus throw and took fifth in the hammer throw.

Senior Julius Hanks, a standout performer in track and cross country for four years, finished his illustrious Morehouse career, with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and a sixth-place finish in the 1,500 meters.
