March 24, 2007 – AUBURN, AL – Morehouse jumper Randall Flimmons followed up his NCAA Division II national indoor long jump championship early this month with two superb performances at the Auburn University Spring Invitational track and field meet.
In a meet of mostly Division I athletes, Flimmons leapt past the competition, on the way to setting two Facility Records in the long jump and the triple jump. Flimmons’ name will remain on the Auburn web site and record book until his distance is surpassed.
Flimmons, a senior drama major from Columbus, MS, soared 24’-11” to win the long jump event. His jump was more than 12 inches longer than his nearest competitors from Tennessee State and Michigan State.
In the triple jump, Flimmons hopped, skipped and jumped a combined 50’-1 ¾” to capture that event. His nearest competitors were two Morehouse student-athletes who made a clean sweep of the event.
Evan Flax, a junior from Fontana, CA, took second place, with a distance of 48’-3 ½,” and Barry Battson, a sophomore from Christ Church, Barbados, earned third place with a distance of 48’-3 ¼.”
In the high jump, senior Keith Moffatt finished second, with a leap of 7’-3 ¼” and Flax grabbed third place, with a leap of 7’-1.” With only slight variations in the final heights, the high jump results were identical to the Division II Indoors won by Jim Dilling of Minnesota State-Mankato, who won the Auburn meet with a Facility Record leap of 7’-4 ½.”
The Morehouse “A” team raced to a third-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay, in a time of 40.93, and the Morehouse “A” team grabbed second place in the 4x400-meter relay. Auburn teams won both the relay events.
