January 7, 2007 – NASHVILLE, TN – A long list of Maroon Tigers turned in stellar performances at the Ed Temple Classic Indoor Track and
Field meet, Saturday, in Nashville.
More than 20 teams from powerhouse track programs and clubs in the southern United States participated in the event named for the legendary former coach of Tennessee State University.
Tops among the outstanding Morehouse performers were Alex Brickler, Randall Flimmons, D’Ornior Flax, Keith Moffatt, Damian Prince, Billy Wooten and the 4x400m relay team.
Moffatt, the senior jumping phenom, added another victory to his growing list, with a 7’-4 ½” leap in the high-jump competition. The Physical Education major from Newport News, VA is the number one ranked high jumper in the NCAA Division II.
Morehouse’s D’Ornior Flax took second in the high jump, soaring 7’-0 ½.” The sophomore from Fontana, CA is ranked fifth among high jumpers in the NCAA’s D-II.
Senior strongman Billy Wooten shook off an ankle injury and came out swinging in this event, with a first-place finish in the weight throw and a third-place finish in the shot put. Wooten, from Durham, NC, heaved the 16-pound shot ball 42’-8” and tossed the weight, formerly called the hammer, 51’-1 ¾” for his best finishes as a Maroon Tiger.
Sophomore John Mitchell finished sixth in the shot put and seventh in the shot put.
Alex Brickler, the All-SIAC cross country runner, captured second place in the 3,000-meter run, with a time of 9:23.49.
Randall Flimmons grabbed second place in the long jump, flying 25’-6 ½.” The leap propelled Flimmons to the top of the heap in the NCAA DII rankings.
Sprinter Damian Prince took third place in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 49.38.
