March 12, 2005 – Boston – Two Morehouse track and field athletes won national titles at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, held in Boston, in March.
In the high jump, Morehouse sophomore Keith Moffatt repeated as national champion; and in the triple jump junior Cameron Dayne won his first national title.
Moffatt, the 2004 SIAC high jump champion, successfully defended his national title with a leap of 7’-1.75,” to finish well ahead of the second place finisher.
Dayne, a consistent and versatile performer in jumps and sprints, won his event with a leap of 52’-9.5.” His jump was nearly a foot-and-a-half longer than his nearest competitor.
Both Dayne and Moffat were named to the D2 Indoor All-America team for the second time.
In the team competition, Morehouse finished ninth. On first glance ninth place may not be remarkable, but considering that Morehouse sent only four athletes to compete against hundreds of athletes from more than 50 colleges and universities, the result is outstanding.
Senior hurdler Javonie Small and junior long-jumper Randall Flimmons also competed for Morehouse, but finished out of the scoring.
