November 7, 2009 – ATLANTA – David Carter rushed for a season-high 130 yards and two touchdowns, to help Morehouse beat the Miles Golden Bears, 30-14, and end the season on a winning note and.
Despite the win, Morehouse dropped from seventh place to eighth, in the NCAA Super Regional II ranking, and was excluded from the playoffs, by the selection committee, which met Sunday, to decide the 24-team national championship field.
Making it to the playoffs would have extended the Morehouse playing careers of 10 seniors – Christian Green, David Hart, Ramon Harewood, Achille Hendje, DaJuan Holmes, Darren Jackson, Nate Nobles, Mark Russell, Sherman Thomas and Joseph Williams – who were playing their last game in a Morehouse uniform. The 10 were honored, along with their families, prior to the game.
Carter, a freshman from Atlanta, carried the ball 27 times, en route to his best rushing game of the season. For his effort, Carter was named the SIAC Newcomer of the Week, for the third time this season.
Christian Green added 72 rushing yards to the team total of 228 yards, the second-best ground game of 2009. Green also caught three passes for nine yards.

To celebrate his final college game, and with the score solidly in Morehouse’s favor, David Hart played the final six minutes at quarterback. Hart, one of the team’s most versatile athletes, usually plays wide receiver and serves as the placekick holder.
Achille Hendje caught four passes for 52 yards, to lead the Morehouse receiving corps.
Justin Oliver led Morehouse tacklers with eight take-downs. The tackling brigade he spearheaded spent a considerable amount of time in the Golden Bears’ backfield, throwing the Miles runners for a combined loss of 45 yards. DeAngelo Julks made seven tackles, Charlie Wilson made six and Brandon Houston contributed five.
Derrin “Freight Train” Nettles made the biggest defensive play of the game, with a 92-yard fumble recovery and touchdown run. The play was one of the longest defensive scoring plays in Morehouse history and drew an excessive celebration penalty, as nearly the entire Maroon Tiger bench rushed onto the field to celebrate Nettle’s accomplishment.
