October 31, 2009 – ALBANY, GA – With both the starting and backup quarterbacks injured, Morehouse had little chance against the SIAC’s number one defense, and the Maroon Tigers fell to Albany State 30-12.
Despite a game effort by emergency quarterback David Hart, the Maroon Tigers could produce only one touchdown and two field goals against the Golden Rams.
Hart, a wide receiver and placekick holder, completed 11-of-25 passes, for 135 yards and a touchdown, but was sacked seven times and intercepted three times.
The Maroon Tigers gained 94 yards on the ground – 49 by David Carter and 36 by Hart.
Six Morehouse receivers caught 11 passes for 135 yards, with Achille Hendje (3-42), Robert Darby-McNair (2-40) and Jamar Rodriguez (2-21) getting the lion’s share. Hendje’s 13-yard scoring reception from Hart was the only Morehouse touchdown.
Ian Mullen kicked second-quarter field goals of 26 and 52 yards.
Linebacker Charlie Wilson led all tacklers with 13 tackles. Brandon Houston contributed nine tackles.
Albany State, which improved to 8-1 (7-1 SIAC), avenged the 24-19 defeat at the hands of the Maroon Tigers at the 2008 Morehouse Homecoming.
Morehouse dropped to 6-3 (5-3 SIAC) and will finish the season against Miles, Saturday at 2 p.m., at home.
