October 26, 2009 – ATLANTA – Once again Ian Mullen showed that he is one of the premier kickers in the SIAC, and once again he was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
In Saturday’s Homecoming win against Clark Atlanta, Mullen, a six-foot, 225-pound junior from Long Beach, CA, kept the Panthers on their side of the field with booming punts they had little chance to return. He punted seven times for a 39.6-yard average.
Late in the third quarter, Mullen broke a 14-14 tie, with a 26-yard field goal. The five-time POW also hit 3-of-3 extra points to continue his perfect streak in that department. He leads the SIAC in PAT accuracy, having hit 26-of-26 attempts.
Linebacker Charlie Wilson and running back David Carter were also recognized for their outstanding performances in the CAU game, with Honorable Mention citations.
Wilson had four tackles and two interceptions. But his biggest play was his fourth-quarter pass deflection to teammate Olajawaun Gooch that he returned for the winning touchdown.
Carter rushed 19 times for 109 yards and a touchdown. His two-yard TD run in the second quarter cut the CAU lead in half.
With the win over CAU, Morehouse has moved up to number three in the SIAC and up to number six in the NCAA Division II Super Regional II poll.
On Saturday, at 2 p.m. Morehouse travel to Albany, GA, to play the Golden Rams, the number one team in the SIAC and number three in the NCAA Super Regional.
