TIGERS POST FIRST SHUTOUT SINCE 1993

TIGERS POST FIRST SHUTOUT SINCE 1993

September 19, 2009 – JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Morehouse quarterback William Brack rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another, as the Maroon Tigers rolled over the Lincoln University (MO) Blue Tigers, 38-0.

It was the first time Morehouse has shut out an opponent since 1993, when the Maroon Tigers blanked Miles 38-0, then Clark Atlanta 7-0, to end the season.

An 11-yard touchdown run by Mychal Harrison gave Morehouse a 7-0 lead, midway through the first quarter. The first collegiate touchdown by the junior running back from Atlanta set the tone for Morehouse’s highest point total of the season.

The Maroon Tigers did most the damage in the second quarter, racking up 24 points. Ian Mullen kicked a 24-yard field goal, John Smith caught a Brack pass for a two-yard touchdown, Brack scored the first of his two TDs and Christian Green scored on a 30-yard run, to bring the halftime score 31-0.

Brack completed 17-of-25 passes for 191 yards. He was intercepted twice and sacked once.

Running back “Jake” Thompson powered the Morehouse ground game, with 82 yards on 15 carries. He finished with 49 yards.

Morehouse improves to 3-1 (2-1 SIAC). Lincoln, which has yet to score an offensive touchdown this season, fell to 0-4.

Once again, the Morehouse defense turned up the pressure, holding the Blue Tigers to 180 yards of offense, the lowest of any opponent this year.

Charlie Wilson spearheaded the Morehouse defensive attack, collecting 11 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. DaJuan Holmes recorded a sack, to go with his 10 tackles, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss. Turner Coggins registered 10 tackles.

Brandon Houston played his best game as a Maroon Tiger. The 5’-10” 225-pound freshman linebacker from Atlanta contributed nine tackles, to more than double his season total of 17.

DeAngelo Julks and Justin Murray each had an interception. The picks raised the Morehouse season interception total to eight, which is tied for the lead in the SIAC.

Jamar Rodriguez led all receivers in the game with five catches for 52 yards. David Hart caught four balls for 39 yards. Robert Darby-McNair, Tyjuan McFadden and Paul Parker caught two each, for a combined 85 yards.

Morehouse has this weekend off and will return home, October 3, at 7 p.m., to face the Stillman College Tigers.
