September 14, 2009 – ATLANTA – Following the 27-21 win over Kentucky State, SIAC officials named Morehouse’s David Carter and Ian Mullen as Players of the Week and Charlie Wilson made the POW Honorable Mention list.
For the second time in three games, running back Carter was named the Co-Newcomer of the Week. Carter, a 5’-10” 215-pound freshman from Marietta, GA, shared the award with Kentucky State linebacker Deshon Best. Carter rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown and caught a pass for 32 yards. His 95 all-purpose yards represented nearly a third of the Maroon Tigers’ 318 yards of offense.
Mullen was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. The 6-0, 225-pound placekicker from Long Beach, CA, kicked field goals, of 26 and 21 yards, and was 3-for-3 on points-after-touchdowns. Mullen, who is a perfect 8-of-8 on the season for PAT’s, also punted six times for a 42.2-yard average.
Wilson had another outstanding day in the Morehouse defensive backfield. The 6’-0” 205-pound linebacker from Montgomery, AL, recorded, five tackles, two sacks and intercepted a pass that he ran back 50 yards for a touchdown. In game one, against Benedict, Wilson returned a 25-yard interception for a TD.
