CARGILE, STREIFF PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

October 14, 2008 – ATLANTA – Even though Morehouse lost the Clash in Columbus, two Maroon Tigers shared Player of the Week honors and one received an Honorable Mention designation.

Linebacker Jeffrey Cargile was picked as the Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his prowess in the loss to Tuskegee. The senior from Cincinnati recorded a season-high 14 tackles and two-and-a-half sacks against the Golden Tigers. He shared defensive POW honors with Tobias Wilson of Miles.

Cargile is the team leader in sacks and tackles and is the SIAC leader in sacks with eight and in tackles per game, with 8.8.

Placekicker Micah Streiff was voted the Co-Special Teams Player of the Week. Streiff, a senior from Decatur, makes the POW honor roll for the fifth time this season, the most of any player in the SIAC.

Streiff, who punted six times for an average of 42.7 yards and booted three extra points, Saturday, leads the conference in scoring by kick, with 32 points. He is the second most prolific extra point kicker, having hit on 21-of-22 attempts. He shared the special teams POW distinction with Demetrice Johnson of Albany State.

On September 22, Streiff was named the D2Football.com national Special Teams Player of the Week.

Wide receiver and kick returner Jamar Rodriguez was cited for Honorable Mention for his performance against Tuskegee. The redshirt sophomore from Houston amassed 173 all-purpose yards, on kick returns, rushes and pass receptions.

This was Rodriguez’s second time on the SIAC honor roll. He leads the SIAC in kick return average, with 29.6 yards per game and is second in all-purpose yardage with 819 yards.
