September 8, 2008 – ATLANTA – Morehouse wide receiver Achille Hendje and placekicker Micah Streiff have been selected Player of the Week by SIAC officials.
Hendje and Streiff had spectacular performances in Sunday’s dramatic, 38-35, comeback win against Fort Valley State. Hendje’s pass receptions fueled the Morehouse second-half resurgence and Streiff kicked the winning field goal with two seconds left that propelled the Maroon Tigers to the first win against the Wildcats in 11 years.
Hendje, a senior from Silver Spring, MD, caught eight passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns, to earn the Offensive Player of the Week selection. He hauled in a pass for the two-point conversion that tied the score at 35-all. Hendje’s 175 yards were the eighth best in Morehouse history by a wide receiver. This is his first appearance on the POW honor roll.
Streiff, the Special Teams Player of the Week, made the POW roll for the tenth time, since transferring from Tennessee State University last season. With his booming punts and accurate placekicking, the junior from Decatur, GA has almost single-handed helped the Maroon Tigers improve over the last two seasons.
Though only one player per team is eligible to be the Player of the Week, Christian Sterling could easily have been named to that honor. The sophomore transfer from Texas Tech completed 22-of-33 passes for 368 yards and four touchdowns. His yardage was the third best in Morehouse history.
