July 30, 2008 – ATLANTA – Linebacker Jeffrey Cargile is racking up more and more recognition for his outstanding play during the 2007 season.
Cargile’s latest achievements include being voted onto the 2008 All-SIAC preseason team and to the Lindy’s magazine 2008 preseason All-America Team.
After being voted to the 2007 post-season All-SIAC team, Cargile was selected to the Daktronics Division II All-South Region team.
In November, the junior from Cincinnati was named the SIAC and the D2football.com national Defensive Player of the Week, for his outstanding performance against Miles College. D2football.com is an online sports reporting agency that focuses on the NCAA Division II.
The only other Maroon Tiger to be named Player of the Week by the online sports service was John David Washington in 2005, when he rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns against Edward Waters College.
In the Miles game, Cargile, a 5’-9” 190-lb finance major, spent almost half his time in the Golden Bears’ backfield. He recorded a career-high 13 tackles, a quarterback sack and an interception. His 13 tackles were the second highest for a Maroon Tiger in 2007, trailing only the 17 tackles recorded by cornerback Derrick Scott against Albany State, on October 27.
Cargile and the rest of the Maroon Tigers will report to fall training camp on August 6, to prepare for the 2008 season.
