July 28, 2008 – ATLANTA – Seven Maroon Tigers were named to the 2008 All-SIAC Preseason Football Team announced today by conference officials.
Linebacker Jeffrey Cargile and punter Micah Streiff were voted to the 1st Team. Offensive linemen Ramone Harewood and Nate Nobles, defensive lineman Mario Lane, defensive back Derrick Scott and wide receiver James Steadman were voted to the 2nd Team.
Defensive lineman DeJuan Payne was named erroneously to the 2008 all-conference team, but the senior from Atlanta has exhausted his collegiate eligibility and will not return.
Honors have continued to pile up for Cargile, since leading the Maroon Tigers in tackles in 2007. After being voted to the post-season All-SIAC team, Cargile, a junior from Cincinnati, was named to the Daktronics All-South Region team and to the Lindy’s magazine 2008 preseason All-America Team.
No stranger to conference honors, Streiff was named SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week six times and received Honorable Mention twice, in 2007.
Nominations and voting were conducted by head football coaches of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Coaches could nominate but not vote for their own players.
