November 15, 2007 – ATLANTA – Five Morehouse players earned spots on the All-SIAC football team announced today by conference officials.
Offensive linemen Ramone Harewood and Nate Nobles, defensive end DeJuan Payne, free safety Derrick Scott and punter Micah Streiff were all named to the SIAC second team.
Harwood, a 6’-8” 310-pound sophomore from Christ Church, Barbados, and Nobles, 6’- 5” 280-pound junior from Manteca, CA, anchored a Morehouse offensive line that finished fourth in the SIAC in total offense.
Payne, a 5’-11” 230-pound senior from Stone Mountain, GA, was one of the team’s leading tacklers. His football prowess and leadership helped turn around a Morehouse defense that moved from last in the SIAC in 2006 to fourth in the conference this season.
Scott, a 6’-2” 190-pound junior from Bronwood, GA, was Morehouse’s second leading tackler and one of the best pass defenders in the SIAC. Twice this season, Scott was named to the SIAC Player of the Week honor roll.
Streiff, a 5’-11” 175 pound junior transfer from Decatur, GA, was the second leading punter in the SIAC. He was named SIAC Special Team Player of the Week six times in 2007 and received Honorable Mention on two other occasions.
Nominating and voting were conducted solely by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Football Coaches Association.
Tuskegee quarterback Jacary Atkins was the SIAC Offensive Player of the Year and the conference’s Most Valuable Player. Clark Atlanta defensive end Curtis Johnson was the Defensive Player of the Year and Tuskegee coach Willie Slater was the Coach of the Year.
